Home access: keys, codes, alarm, and pets

You do not need to be home when we clean. Most of our customers choose a permanent access solution, so we can enter at the agreed time without you having to take time off. The most common options are a key box with a code, a handed-over key, or a digital lock. Agree on the solution in writing before the assignment, and do not leave a key in a place we have not confirmed.

The arrangement that applies to you, and who at Vaskeladden has access, is stated in your agreement. If you need to change or revoke access, reply to our latest confirmation. Wait until we have confirmed the change before considering it registered.

How do we arrange access?

We confirm the access method in writing before the first assignment, so there is never any doubt about how the cleaner will enter. The most common options are:

  • Key box by the door with a code known only to you and us.
  • Handed-over key that we store in a safe place.
  • Digital lock or one-time code that you control yourself.
  • You open yourself, if you prefer to be home.

Let us know if anything changes, such as a new code, changed lock, or moving. Reply to our latest confirmation, and we will confirm in writing when the change is registered.

What happens if we cannot gain access upon arrival?

If the cleaner arrives at the agreed time and cannot enter, for example, because the door is locked, the code is missing, or no one opens, any charges and new booking will follow your signed agreement. We will contact you regarding further follow-up.

How do we handle keys and codes safely?

We treat keys and codes as what they are: access to your home. We never label a key with your address, and codes are not shared outside of those who are actually performing the assignment. When a customer relationship ends, we return the key or delete the code, depending on what has been agreed.

A few simple steps make access safer for both parties:

  1. Use a separate code for cleaning that you do not use elsewhere.
  2. Change the code if you have shared it widely, for example during renovation.
  3. Notify us immediately if a key is lost, and we will close the arrangement.

If you are in doubt about who has access, or if you want to change something, reply to our latest confirmation.

What about alarms?

If you have an alarm, we need clear instructions to arm and disarm it. Write down zones, any sensors that should not be triggered, and what happens if the alarm goes off by mistake. Please also state who the alarm company should contact, so that a false alarm does not result in an unnecessary call-out. Send the instructions as a reply to our latest confirmation instead of leaving a note by the door.

Do I need to do anything about pets?

We are used to dogs and cats, and our cleaners get along well with most. For the assignment to proceed smoothly, it helps to know a little in advance:

  • Tell us what animals you have, and whether they are shy or outgoing.
  • Let us know if an animal must not get out when the front door is opened.
  • Set aside a separate room, or keep the animal on a leash, if it gets stressed by visitors.

Let us know if you use special cleaning products due to your pet, and we will include it in the planning.

Do I need to be home?

No. The whole point of a permanent access solution is that you can be at work or traveling while we clean. If you prefer to be present, especially during the first visit, that is perfectly fine – many find it helpful to go through expectations face-to-face. Both options work; the choice is yours.

If you need to change access, alarm instructions, or anything related to pets, reply to our latest confirmation. Wait for us to confirm the change. If you are unsure, contact us, and we will help you.
